This unique degree programmes offers students the opportunity to examine the history of ideas in an institution which boasts some of the leading intellectual historians in the world including Quentin Skinner, Gareth Stedman Jones and Richard Bourke. QMUL is the only Russell Group university which offers an intensive first year course introducing students to the Foundations of Political Thought. The School has a strong team of experts offering courses on a wide range of subjects across many centuries. We offer modules on an exceptional range of subjects including: The Foundations of Modern Thought: Introduction to Intellectual History; Chartists, Rebels and Suffragettes: Democracy in Britain, 1380 -1928; Human Rights in History: Origins Foundations, Prospects; History of Western political thought; The Making of the Modern Self; Totalitarianism: History & Theory of Twentieth Century Authoritarian Politics; The Darwinian Revolution: the History of a Dangerous Idea; The British Empire in Political Thought; The Age of Revolutions: Global Perspectives; The idea of "the West": a history from the nineteenth to the twenty-first century, and The Enlightenment (I) and (II). This degree is available as a 4 year programme with a year abroad spent with one of our international partners.
