Internet Design

Do you want to be amongst the world’s best web designers, coders, networked systems architects and creative thinkers? BSc (Hons) Internet Design is more than just a web design course, combining technical skills with graphic design and communication theory to enable you to see the world in a new way. Our rich combination of topics gives you the knowledge and ability to design and develop internet systems, shaping our digital future. Our lecturers and tutors are experts drawn from creative arts and technology industries, with teaching informed by the research activities of world-class research groups (i-DAT and Planetary Collegium). You will have the opportunity to work in industry with an optional paid placement year, acquiring a host of technical and creative skills. You’ll enjoy enrichment activities include overseas field trips and real-world assignment briefs. * Benefit from a degree designed in close collaboration with industry leaders, including Sony, IBM and Virgin Media, to ensure relevancy of technologies, skills and techniques. Amazing facilities, including the IBM sponsored 'Smarter Planet' Internet of Things lab, and access to a dedicated lab space which stays open until 10pm. * Your assessments are 100 per cent coursework – no exams! * Lecturers and tutors are experts drawn from creative arts and technology industries, with teaching informed by the research activities of world-class research groups (i-DAT and Planetary Collegium). * Enrichment activities include overseas field trips and real-world assignment briefs. * Take the opportunity to work in industry with an optional paid placement year, acquiring a host of technical and creative skills. * Become a ‘full stack hacker’ for websites, technologies and internet-based applications. A full stack hacker understands all aspects of development, from server administration through programming and scripting, all the way up to graphic design. * The course is not just limited to screen-based media but also encompasses interaction through physical, tangible and invisible interfaces. * Explore future technologies including the 'Internet of Things' and 'Cloud' based systems. * You’ll be provided with a range of electronic equipment (including an android tablet), a number of text books as well as a printing budget for hardcopy graphics work to help support your studies. * 81 per cent of students agreed staff were good at explaining things; 88 per cent of students were in work/study six months after finishing and 91 per cent of students in employment six months after the course were in a professional/managerial job.
