Spanish and Chinese

Joint Honours degrees enable you to have the maximum flexibility to study subject areas that really interest you. SPANISH can be studied at beginner or GCSE level where you won't need any prior knowledge of the language. if you'd like to study Spanish at post A-level then you'll need an A-level in Spanish. NTU has a 90% student satisfaction rate for Iberian Studies (NSS 2017). The course explores a range of interesting aspects of Spanish culture, politics and society and will provide you with an in-depth analysis of these areas, which you'll be able to utilise during your third year where you have the option to spend time either working or studying abroad. MANDARIN CHINESE can be studied at beginner or GCSE level but if you wish to study the course at post A-level, you'll need an A-level in Mandarin Chinese. You'll develop excellent language skills as well as a broad understanding of Chinese culture and society. This course is ideal for anyone who wishes to understand the history, political and social aspects of two modern languages. It is also ideal for anyone who would like to widen their understanding of other languages and cultures. NTU’s Spanish courses are in the UK’s Top 20 for student satisfaction (NSS 2017). You’ll get the opportunity to either work or study in Spain or South America during your third year to practically apply your learning. This course will help you to gain an impressive communicative skill whilst developing your accuracy and fluency of Spanish. Our partner universities are in; Alcalá, Avila, León, Madrid, Salamanca, Murcia, Granada, Valencia, Oviedo, the Basque Country and Santiago ( Chile). Our Mandarin Chinese course will introduce you to the modern spoken and written language of Chinese. You'll then focus on the historical, political and cultural background of both languages. This course will help you to gain impressive written, reading and oral skills of both languages whilst developing your accuracy and fluency. You'll also be offered an exciting option to either work or study in Spain or China during your third year to utilise your knowledge, gain independence in a foreign country and learn how to adapt to the working world. To help improve your career prospects you'll be able to take a final year module that has been specifically designed to help improve your translation and interpretation skills. You'll be taught using the latest language-teaching methodologies and CALL technologies. Alongside this, you'll also have access to our resource centres and computer aided language learning software. This course will help you to adapt to different situations and cultures within your professional and personal life and can help you to stand out within the competitive graduate market. This joint honours degree will prepare you for a range of national and international careers. You'll develop strong Spanish and Mandarin communication skills and a great understanding of both cultures. You'll gain a strong critical awareness, be able to multi-task, become more intellectually motivated and have a great understanding of two different cultural societies and the different was in which they communicate. A degree in modern languages will show potential employers that you're confident, mature and efficient at working independently. 90% of our Chinese joint honours undergraduates are in work or further study within just six months of finishing their degree (DLHE 2015-16). Some of our most recent graduates have secured excellent roles within the educational sector, civil service, and with various media institutes. Students with a language degree are actively sought after by employers for today's markets. Some of our students have found careers within creative industries based in East Asia, Spain and Latin America.
