Property development and planning is fundamental to the construction industry; from site identification and analysis, to design, viability and finance. Our BSc (Hons) Property Development and Planning course has been to developed to enable you to focus on adding value to land and property, as an adviser, consultant or developer of the future. Through our course, you'll develop detailed specialist knowledge and skills, in areas such as spatial and urban design, site appraisal, sustainability, planning and development consultancy, and management of the development process. With an emphasis on practice-based learning through site visits, field work and work placements, you'll develop a comprehensive understanding of property development and planning. This course is accredited by The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), recognising the quality and relevance of our course content. We focus heavily on offering you a well-rounded course that prepares you efficiently to enter the world of work. You’ll be encouraged to undertake work experience - primarily in the form of a one-year placement - to build your CV and to gain additional skills, put your learning into practice and to help you stand out within the graduate employment market. Our students have gained positions in a variety of companies such as Jaguar Land Rover, Barratt Homes, Berkley Group and Innes England. The placement year will help you in terms of your academic performance the crucial employability skills which you’ll gain. This is also a great opportunity to expand your network of contacts and to explore an area of work which is aligned to your career ambitions. Many of the companies are RICS accredited which means that the year counts towards your RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) and to becoming a chartered surveyor. Your course tutors are academic experts who have both industry experience, academic research, and are representatives of professional bodies. From time to time speakers from industry will lead your lectures. You’ll be assessed through a mixture of coursework, practical exercises and exams. However, the majority of your assessment will be coursework and will take shape in the form of essays, projects, reports and presentations. You’ll have the opportunity to go on a European field trip which is included within your course fees. Recently our students visited development sites and professionals from the industry in Berlin and Hamburg. Through trips, you’ll get to explore worldwide best practice in property development, infrastructure and planning. During your final year you’ll be able to benefit from having a mentor from industry who will offer you additional support to enhance your employability.
