Italian and History

Joint Honours degrees enable you to have the maximum flexibility to study subject areas that really interest you. NTU’s Italian courses are Number One in the UK for student satisfaction (NSS 2017). It's been designed to ensure that you receive a rapid progress in the Italian language and in-depth knowledge of the societies and cultures in which it is spoken. HISTORY at NTU received a 92% student satisfaction rate - The National Student Survey 2016. This course will introduce you to diverse peoples, nations and ideas from medieval and early modern right through to contemporary history within Britain across to the Americas, Asia and the Far East. Both subjects will help you to enhance your written and verbal communication, independent learning, creativity and analytical skills. Italian at NTU can be studied at a beginner or GCSE level. However, if you wish to study Italian as a post A-level course then you'll need A-level Italian. You'll look at Italian cities, the culture and various forms of translation and interpretation. Italian at NTU will be taught using the latest language teaching methods and CALL technologies. A degree in Italian is important for many careers such as fashion, business and design and it can also give your joint honours course a competitive edge, helping you to stand out within the graduate employment market. You'll also have access to NTU's excellent language resource centres which will aid your understanding of the languages. NTU's Italian courses have a 100% student satisfaction rate (NSS 2017). History at NTU offers a range of ways to make sense of the past by utilising a selection of approaches and skills. This course requires you to be intellectually curious about the subject, be passionate and focused. The academic team at NTU teaches specialist modules informed by their own research specialisms, including; History Matters, Conflicts and Cultures in Mid-Victorian England 1850-1880 and Real Life Work Project. The skills that you will gain from this joint honours degree such as excellent communication skills, organisation, multi-tasking and to produce analytical work to a high standard are all desired skills which today's leading employers are looking for. This joint honours degree will prepare you for a range of national and international careers ranging from fashion to teaching. You'll gain a critical understanding of Italian politics, culture, society, progress within written and verbal communication of the modern language and gain valuable translation skills. Students with a language degree are now actively sought after by employers for today's global markets. A degree in Italian and History shows that you are self motivated, organised, creative and can multi-task. 93% of our Italian joint honours undergraduates are in work or further study within just six months of finishing their degree (DHLE 2015-16). Our recent graduates have taken on roles within the United Nations, various international charities and UK government departments. Language graduates are in a great demand for a variety of occupations such as the media industry and education sector. Other graduates have pursued careers in public relations, armed forces, fashion and as jewellery designers. Some recent graduates have also decided to undertake a further vocational study in translation and interpreting to either improve their career prospects or to tailor their studies accordingly for a particular career prospect.
