Joint Honours degrees enable you to have the maximum flexibility to study subject areas that really interest you. GERMAN at NTU is offered as a post A-level subject. Our German course covers language and life in Germany as well as exploring the implications of history, society and politics. You'll examine a range of contemporary German Film and Literature. The course will explore all areas of the German language and life in Germany. MANDARIN CHINESE can be studied at beginner or GCSE level but if you wish to study the course at post A-level, you'll need an A-level in Mandarin Chinese at grade C or above. You'll develop excellent language skills as well as a broad understanding of Chinese culture and society. This course is ideal for anyone who wishes to understand the historical, political and social elements of two modern languages. It is also ideal for anyone who would like to widen their understanding of other languages and cultures. German at NTU has been created to ensure a quick learning progress of the German language and an in-depth understanding of the societies and cultures in which it is spoken. You'll also have the exciting option to either work or study in Germany or Austria during your third year to utilise your knowledge and gain independence in a European country whilst learning how to adjust to the working world. This course will help you to gain impressive communication skills such as writing, listening and reading, whilst developing your accuracy and fluency of the language. To help improve your career prospects you'll be able to take a final year module which will help you with translation and interpreting. You'll be taught using the latest language-teaching methodologies and CALL technologies and have access to NTU’s resource centres and computer aided language learning software. NTU's Mandarin Chinese course will introduce you to the modern spoken and written language of Chinese. You'll focus on the historical, political and cultural background of this language in great detail during the later years of the course. NTU will also offer you an exciting option to either work or study in Germany or China during your third year to utilise your language knowledge and gain independence in a foreign country, learn how to adapt to the working world in a foreign country. This course will provide you with an in-depth understanding of the German and Chinese language and culture. During your third year you'll have the opportunity to either work or study in Germany or Austria or China to practically apply your learning of both subjects and to gain independence in a different country. Being able to communicate in a variety of ways through the use of a modern language is a skill that many of today’s leading firms are looking for. Students with a language degree are now actively sought after by employers for today's leading markets such as education and retail business. Many firms want to recruit language students who are able to communicate with clients and colleagues in a variety of ways in different situations. Having a joint honours degree in a language subject will help you to be considered for numerous roles in the UK and abroad. Some of our most recent graduates have secured excellent roles globally within the educational sector, civil service, and various media industries. Others are working in exciting and fast paced roles with The United Nations and The European Parliament. A degree in a modern language shows employers that you're motivated, mature, well-organised and can work effectively on your own to tight deadlines.
