You'll develop your professional skills through live projects and competitions, using our industry-standard facilities. You’ll be offered unique and exciting international exchanges at places like the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, and benefit from visiting professionals form the industry, such as internationally renowned fashion designers Giles Deacon and Christopher Raeburn. You'll have the chance to attend overseas trips to major events like Paris Fashion Week and enter competitions across the globe. During your first year you’ll studies will focus on providing you with the fundamental design process skills such as: research methods, exploration of design development and the course will provide you with a selection of technical workshops which will teach you effective sewing techniques and how clothes are made. The course will help you to think about where your designs fit within the wider social and cultural context. The second year of this course will introduce you to the different commercial contexts within the industry and you’ll be encouraged to practically apply your learning through global competitions, business practices and manufacture expertise. You’ll also be taught how commercial contexts affect design culture. Your final year will consist of writing a detailed dissertation and showcasing two projects which highlights your design and research skills. You’ll be able to choose whether you wish to distribute your work on a catwalk collection or as part of a fashion product exhibition. If your work is selected you’ll be able to showcase your work at Graduate Fashion Week in London which may lead to securing innovative roles within some of the biggest fashion companies based in the UK and overseas. Most of your time will be spent in a studio where you’ll have the space to channel your creativity and produce high quality garments. This course is 100% assessed on coursework. You’ll be taught through a range of lectures, briefings, studio workshops and study visits. You’ll be encouraged to pursue a range of work placements throughout your study to gain new skills to help you transition into the world of work and to mould your professional practice. 97% of our graduates from this course are in employment or further study within just six months of graduating.
