Civil Engineering

Civil engineers find creative ways to solve-real world problems, developing the physical infrastructure for society to exist: from bridges, to houses, and from roads to hospitals and train stations. Accredited by five professional industry bodies, our course has been designed to provide a practical and broad civil engineering education. Through live projects, residential field trips, site visits and a work placement year, you'll gain a solid foundation of knowledge and hands-on skills. The course offers you the chance to develop your understanding of design, sustainability and health and safety essential for the industry. Our course is accredited by five professional bodies - the Engineering Council, Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES) and Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) which includes the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), and the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) - recognising the quality and relevance of the course content, and allowing you to take the first steps towards Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status; it's also the quickest route to Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. You'll benefit from excellent employability prospects; 100% of our BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering sandwich students are in a professional or managerial job, just six months after graduating, earning an average salary of £26,600 (DLHE, 2014-2015). Due to a skills shortage and a boom in the construction industry, civil engineering graduates are heavily sought after. You'll gain vital skills and experience in the workplace by undertaking a one-year placement, with the majority of our students receiving a paid salary. You'll get the chance to apply your learning to the real world and network with experts in industry, with opportunities to take part in site visits, a residential surveying trip (included in course fees) and live projects as part of the course, and you'll experience hands-on learning in our modern facilities and workshops, offering industry-standard equipment and support from our team of expert technicians.
