If you are caring and enthusiastic about building positive relationships, mental health nursing will develop your talents to become a highly-skilled and compassionate member of the nursing profession. This course shares a number of modules with pre-registration nursing degrees, enabling you to gain a solid foundation in patient care before specialising in mental health in your second and third year. We pride ourselves on giving you the opportunity to integrate evidence-based theory into practice. This will ensure you have the confidence to respond imaginatively to the healthcare needs of those using mental health services, whilst providing care to the whole family to facilitate and support recovery. At our Coach Lane Campus you will benefit from our well- equipped Clinical Skills Centre, providing NHS-standard equipment and resources for simulation and practical skills training. Our mental health nursing course has a very practical, hands-on element, with 50% of your learning based on practice placements including NHS Trusts, private sector healthcare and specialist providers, enabling you to take your theory into real-life settings. Upon completion of this course you will obtain Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration as a qualified nurse ensuring you are ‘work ready’. In line with the principles and values which underpin the NHS constitution, the University expects all students undertaking programmes which lead to registration as a health professional to demonstrate the NHS values.
