The Foundation Year provides a route onto a degree if you don’t have the qualifications, or have not studied advanced level subjects sufficiently related to your course of choice, but have the ability to study a degree. The Foundation Year enables you to gain the skills for your chosen degree course, in this instance, the BA (Hons) Tourism Management. Each year we welcome students from a range of traditional and non-traditional backgrounds who have the ability to study at university level, but don’t have the UCAS tariff points to enter directly onto an honours degree. The inclusive nature of the course is reflected in the entry requirements and you may find yourself studying alongside students with BTEC, NVQ, A Level and other Level 3 qualifications or students with relevant work experience. The content of the Foundation Year is designed to ensure that you progress directly onto Year 1 of the linked honours degree with confidence. After successful completion of the Foundation Year, you can choose to progress to the full-time course or the placement course (includes a work experience year). Each Foundation Year is part of a specific degree course. You apply for a 4 year full time or 5 year sandwich degree, including the Foundation Year. Tourism is a dynamic part of the world economy. The growth of online travel agencies, budget airlines, boutique hotels and special interest holidays means there is more choice for tourists and numerous employment opportunities. Throughout this course you will gain an understanding of the role of tourism in modern lifestyles and become equipped with excellent business management skills. The BA (Hons) Tourism Management linked degree course may be tailored to suit your future ambitions, with options to undertake a placement year, a tourism project, specialist subject units and a foreign language.
