Sports Management (with Placement)

If you are passionate about sport and want to pursue a career in business or the sports industry, this is a perfect opportunity to gain a degree whilst studying a subject that is like no other. We've seen huge investment in the development of venues for professional, elite and amateur sports, generating profitable match day experiences for both fans and corporate clients. Alongside significant government funding and commercial sponsorship for health and fitness initiatives, a multimillion-pound sports clothing industry and intensive media coverage, it's a great time to think about building a rewarding career in this exciting, global industry. With a growing demand for graduates who have sports sector knowledge and are able to demonstrate real business acumen, professionalism and commercial awareness, the opportunity is there for the graduates of the future to make a real impact in this fast-paced arena. Our Sports Management degree is ideal for those looking to blend their passion for sport with a head for business and management in the field. This degree is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge to develop a successful career in the sport, recreation and leisure industries. You will learn how to apply management theory to sport management issues in a practical way. There is a strong emphasis on creativity and its application to real life business challenges, such as running recruitment campaigns, developing marketing strategies or interpreting the likes and wants of consumers through market research. You will benefit from guest lectures from industry experts and field trips to sports clubs, so you can meet professionals working in the sector. We encourage you to build your experience by volunteering with local sport organisations and the many major sport events that are hosted in Manchester. We utilise our strong connections with organisations like MMU Sport, Manchester City Football Group, the Sports Events Team at Manchester City Council and National Governing Bodies like GB Taekwondo and British Cycling, who are based in Manchester, to support students' aspirations. Sports Management graduates have found employment with some very prestigious employers including British Athletics, British Swimming, BBC Sport, England Netball and Fanatics. This course offers four year routes where you can choose to study abroad or undertake a placement, spending your third year working in industry.
