Sports Management

This degree is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge to develop a successful career in the sport, recreation and leisure industries. You will learn how to apply management theory to sport management issues in a practical way. There is a strong emphasis on creativity and its application to real-life business challenges, such as running recruitment campaigns, developing marketing strategies or interpreting the likes and wants of consumers through market research. You will benefit from guest lectures from industry experts and field trips to sports clubs, so you can meet professionals working in the sector. We encourage you to build your experience by volunteering with the Manchester Sports Volunteer Bureau, utilising our connections with organisations like the Manchester United Foundation, the England Handball Association and England Basketball. Sports Management graduates have found employment with some very prestigious employers including British Athletics, BBC Sport and Kitbag Limited. This course offers four year routes where you can choose to study abroad or undertake a placement, spending your third year working in industry. You will be taught in the Business School’s state of the art building on All Saints Campus in central Manchester. We are a double-accredited business school, having gained the prestigious AACSB accreditation to provide excellence in global management education. This places us among the top 5% of business schools worldwide to have secured this accreditation and means your degree is internationally recognised. We encourage you to register with the Manchester Sports Volunteer Bureau, which enables you to volunteer at sporting events across the city. As well as guest lectures, we run a number of field trips to clubs such as Manchester City FC, Sales Sharks and Salford Reds so you can meet professionals working in the sector. The Faculty of Business and Law hosts two Professional Development Weeks annually. Free and open to all students, this includes a festival of skills-development activities, practical support in developing your CV and employability skills, and the opportunity to network with actively recruiting graduate employers.
