Spanish with German - Manchester Metropolitan University

Studying a language can open all sorts of doors for your future. Study two and you can open a whole world of multilingual opportunities. Spanish: Spanish is second only to Mandarin Chinese – as the first, official or only language for millions of people across the world, from Asia, America and across Europe. Discover how far it could take you. This four-year course not only offers the kind of language skills that can open doors to a range of opportunities, but also offers a solid understanding of the social and cultural environment of Spanish speaking countries. You’ll have units that help you communicate effectively, with classes that embrace speaking, listening, reading and writing – giving you useful transferrable skills, like translating, interpreting and interview techniques. But this course also places your language learning within the wider context of Spanish Studies, covering areas like literature, film and history. And, by spending your third year abroad studying or on placement, you can develop your language skills in the real world. We are one of the first universities to offer Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) accredited through The National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) as part of your degree. You will have the opportunity, in your first year, to apply for this competitive route and will then be able to directly enter the teaching profession after your degree. German: In Europe, more people speak German as their native language than any other language. It is the official language of Austria, Switzerland and Luxembourg, as well as Germany. As the world's fourth largest economy, and the forerunner in Europe, Germany produces more than a quarter of the European Union's gross domestic product (bbc.co.uk). Admissions at Beginners level only.
