Each year we accept hundreds of student onto Foundation Year courses who have the ability to study at degree level but who don’t have the qualifications to enter directly onto an honours degree. Each Foundation Year is an integral part of a specific degree course; the content is tailored to prepare you for your chosen degree so that you start Year 1 of your linked honours degree with confidence. You will have the opportunity to consider the operations of contemporary society and how social characteristics, such as gender and social class, influence the ways in which people live their lives. You will consider how the relationship between national governments and their citizens is changing, and how this affects key ideas about contemporary issues that include work, education, crime and punishment. You will also address how the links between people and institutions are increasingly global and how to research behaviour, characteristics and beliefs in an effective and ethically considered manner.
