French with German - Manchester Metropolitan University

Studying a language can open all sorts of doors for your future. Study two and you can open a whole world of multilingual opportunities. French: French is a truly global language – one of the few that has spread far beyond its own borders. See how far it can take you. French is not just spoken all over the world. It has also shaped everything from art and fashion to business and diplomacy, and much more besides. So, as part of this four-year programme, you’ll develop language skills as part of the wider context of French Studies, allowing you to explore France’s culture and society. You’ll find our units have a practical focus on helping you communicate effectively, with classes that embrace speaking, listening, reading and writing. You’ll also develop valuable transferrable skills, like translating, interpreting and interview techniques. And, by spending your third year in France, either taking part in the British Council language assistant scheme, on a work placement or studying with a partner university, you’ll have the plenty of opportunities to hone your skills. We are one of the first universities to offer Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) accredited through The National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) as part of your degree. You will have the opportunity, in your first year, to apply for this competitive route and will then be able to directly enter the teaching profession after your degree. German: Our courses offer a highly focused study programme. There is plenty of opportunity for oral and aural practice, but we also promote accuracy in writing German and detailed understanding of written texts. You will acquire a broad range of valuable skills through individual and group work. Admissions at beginners level only.
