The university emphasises a practical, hands-on approach in its teaching, with student facilities that include nursing and midwifery suites, science and engineering laboratories, a 360-degree ship’s bridge simulator and a mock court room.

It also has its own multi-award winning Centre for Entrepreneurship that supports students and recent graduates who want to start their own business, become self-employed or work on a freelance basis. Thanks to their Bathgate Start-up Fund they can offer students a range of opportunities, from small grants to test market demand, through to larger awards to support new ventures.

LJMU degree courses are developed in partnership with industry partners and, with work experience being an intrinsic part of every course, the university’s graduates are much sought after by employers.

Alumni of LJMU include actress and Golden Globe winner Claire Foy, Britain’s greatest-ever female gymnast Beth Tweddle MBE, and former President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed.

International Foundation Year
The International Foundation Year is designed for international students who need to improve their academic levels, study skills and English language qualification before starting the first year of an undergraduate degree at Liverpool John Moores University.

Extended International Foundation Year
The Extended International Foundation Year is perfect for students who are unable to gain direct entry on to the International Foundation Year and who need extra support in business or science subjects. Run over three semesters, it offers extra support and training, to ensure a smooth progression to the first year of your chosen degree at LJMU.

International Year One
International Year One is equivalent to the first year of undergraduate study. It is perfect for students who need extra support with academic levels, study skills and English language before progressing to the second year of an undergraduate degree at LJMU.

Extended International Year One
Our Extended International Year One is the perfect choice for students who do not meet the entry requirements of our International Year One course and need extra support in English language and business subjects. It is equivalent to the first year of a business undergraduate degree. At the end you will progress to year two of an undergraduate degree at LJMU.

Pre-Masters Programme
The Pre-Masters Programme is a fast-track programme to post-graduate study for international students. It is an advanced programme of academic subjects, study skills and English language preparation. Once students successfully complete the programme and achieve the required grades, they can enter their chosen postgraduate degree at Liverpool John Moores University.
