History and Politics (with Foundation Year) - Liverpool Hope University

This is a **four year degree** taught at our Hope Park campus. The Foundation Year aims to develop your skills so that after a year, you will be equipped with the necessary skills needed for studying the full BA Hons degree programme. **History** Our History degree gives you the opportunity to study a wide-range of historical periods and topics with elements in British, Irish, European and International History from the late medieval age to the twentieth century. By studying with us, you will engage with a wide variety of historical evidence throughout the whole of your degree programme. You will benefit from being taught by a team of recognised scholars and experts in their fields who are dedicated and experienced teachers and researchers and regular publishers of their research. Throughout your degree, you will be able to take advantage of the rich library, archival, museum and heritage resources available in Liverpool and further afield, as well as benefit from our partnership with National Museums Liverpool. Working with the staff and resources of the many museums in Liverpool forms an important part of your learning experiences. There are a range of fieldwork activities every year in the local area and beyond, and offers the opportunity for study visits to major European cities each year. **Politics** In an ever changing world, new challenges are constantly arising – from climate change to new technologies, from identity politics to Brexit – and the study of politics needs to respond. At Liverpool Hope, therefore, we seek to engage with politics and political issues in the real world as they evolve and change over time, and we actively encourage debate and discussion amongst our students, encouraging a stronger awareness and appreciation of different points of view. In doing so, we explore the key ideas, institutions and issues that can help us to understand politics in an international, national and local context. You will be taught by staff who are experts in their field, who will teach you to engage with political research and develop the capacity to be an independent, critically-minded scholar and equip you with transferable skills to take into the world of work. The study of politics at Liverpool Hope does not just take place in the classroom and the library. We also organise fieldtrips to relevant local, regional and national institutions, as well as organising a wide range of events with politicians, campaigners and others.
