**Please note that Combined Honours degrees at Liverpool Hope University are split 50/50. This means both subjects will be studied equally.** **Creative Writing** Creative Writing at Liverpool Hope will give you the chance to **experience the joys of crafting the written and spoken word**. Driven by creativity and employability, this degree focuses on literary and professional writing and will equip you with the ability to produce engaging, innovative and saleable texts. By studying Creative Writing, you will be empowered with an enhanced command of your craft, increased confidence in expressing your thoughts and emotions, an understanding of the values that inform your writing practice, and the technical skillset to deliver your work to various audiences. **Your writing will be enhanced by studying under celebrated writers and academics**, as well as developing a range of workplace skills to prepare for fulfilling careers. The degree will often challenge you and ask you to reach beyond your own experience and interests into those of contemporary and historical communities. Using these as creative stimuli, you will be required to reflect upon social contexts, power, and how truth and justice can be communicated or miscommunicated through creative writing. By the end of the degree, you should have a **wide appreciation of forms, genres and applications**. Included in the degree are field trips to Wales, and Liverpool museums and galleries, which provide material for writing exercises as well as widening your student experience. **Law** Law shapes our society and influences every aspect of our lives. It defines our obligations and legal requirements, serves to regulate and define relationships and provides a means of redress when problems arise. To study Law is not only to **study a challenging subject**, but also to study the rules, principles and policies that underpin society. This degree gives you a **theoretical and philosophical grounding in Law**, as well as the ability to engage in its practical study and application. Study Law with us and you will gain an understanding of the fundamental principles, theories and key ideas that underpin the law in England and Wales. You also learn about the way Public Law provides the legal framework within which government and administration functions, the structure of Law and Government under which we live, and the values of democracy, rule of law and constitutionalism that underpin that structure. We aim to produce graduates who do not merely know or know how to, but understand why things are as they are and how they could be different. It is about **gaining a deep approach to the subject**, in which you try to relate ideas in one subject to those in others, to understand what you read, questioning material, making links and pursuing lines of inquiry out of interest.
