The Biology degree at Liverpool Hope takes a broad approach to studying life on Earth. Our lecturers are enthusiastic and approachable research-active biologists whose experience and expertise facilitates research-informed teaching in contemporary aspects of evolutionary biology, animal behaviour, conservation biology, insect ecology, avian biology, bioinformatics, genomics and stable isotope ecology. The more theoretical and technical themes in Biology are covered during **interactive lectures**, and then investigated during small-group tutorials and workshops. You won’t just learn biological theory, you will become actively engaged in all aspects of the subject. You will be able to **carry out your own research projects**, and will be encouraged to consider the wider impacts of Biology on society and everyday life. **Philosophy & Ethics** If you are interested in the big questions of life such as, ‘What values should I live by? Does God exist? Is there a purpose to life? What is justice?’ then studying Philosophy and Ethics at Liverpool Hope will help you develop your own reasoned responses to such questions. Through engaging with key texts from philosophical thought, this degree will enable you to **reflect critically on a range of complex ideas** and deeply contentious issues raised by questioning our assumptions concerning ethical and philosophical matters. Philosophy and Ethics **allows you to set foundations in philosophical and ethical thinking** and then gain a more detailed knowledge in the areas of Continental Philosophy and the Philosophy of Religion; Ethical and Political Philosophy. Religion and Philosophy provides you with a broad knowledge and understanding of six major world religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam); the philosophical approach to religion; and religious and philosophical approaches to truth. This degree will strengthen your reasoning skills central to philosophical argument, and an important transferable skill. It **builds your ability to use sources intelligently**, think critically and make your case with logic and depth. The sustained philosophical enquiry equips you to engage with the pressing questions of our time.
