Are you fascinated by how people think and behave – both as individuals and groups in modern society? Studying Psychology and Sociology gives you the chance to develop your knowledge and understanding of two of the key disciplines in the field of social sciences. You’ll explore the traditional areas of each discipline, such as inequality, social stratification, deviance and punishment. You’ll also learn about the more contemporary fields such as terrorism, environmentalism, global politics, gender and sexuality, and childhood studies. By combining Psychology and Sociology, you’ll get the flexibility to focus closely on the roles and experiences of individuals and groups within modern society, with a particular emphasis on cultural and international factors. You’ll look at the interface between human behaviour and society, developing what we call ‘psychological literacy’ and ‘sociological imagination’. You’ll also benefit from the framework of professional practice that underpins our approach to teaching, which will prepare you for graduate employment in a modern global society. You’ll graduate with a grounding in contemporary psychological and sociological theory and practice, as well as a thorough understanding of the various approaches for explaining and responding to our experiences of society. **Graduate opportunities** Your degree will prepare you for a career in a wide range of roles and organisations, such as the NHS, the police, HM Prison Service, rehabilitation services, emergency and security services, local government, PR, human resources, community work, charities and education. **Placement opportunities** We are one of only a few UK universities to build professional work placements into every degree. You’ll complete two professional work placements, which will give you the chance to graduate with up to three months’ professional work experience without having to take a sandwich year out. You’ll complete a five-week professional work placement in your first year and a six-week professional work placement in your second year. Our students have completed placements at Leeds City Council, mental health organisations, youth projects, school sport partnerships, schools, hospitality organisations and retailers.
