Are you passionate about exercise, health and fitness? Do you want to improve the exercise behaviours and health of individuals, groups and populations? As the UK health and fitness industry experiences continual growth, turn your passion into your profession with an Exercise, Health and Fitness degree. We’ll give you a solid grounding in the core principles of exercise, health and fitness, which include anatomy, physiology, and the psychology and sociology of health and exercise behaviour. As your degree progresses, you’ll apply your knowledge of these core principles to solve a range of real-world problems. You’ll analyse and apply theories and concepts, as well as appraising the evidence around exercise, health and fitness interventions. We’ll develop your exercise instruction and practitioner skills, giving you the knowledge to design, manage and adapt a personal training programme for healthy individuals. You’ll also get the opportunity to study for additional professional qualifications, including Level 2 Gym Instruction, Level 3 Personal Training and Level 3 Exercise Referral. These qualifications are usually a significant extra cost to students, but we include them in your degree at no extra cost. These professional qualifications are recognised by REPS (Register of Exercise Professionals) and will allow you to access the register, which is a real asset if you want to work in the exercise, health and fitness industry. Many exercise professionals are self-employed, so we’ll prepare you to set up your own business through business and marketing modules, as well as giving you the skills and knowledge to work effectively in large businesses in the health, fitness and leisure industries. **Graduate opportunities** You’ll be well-prepared for a range of careers within the exercise, health, fitness and leisure industries, as well as a variety of roles in public health, health promotion in the NHS or local authorities. You’ll have the skills to set up your own business and the opportunity to gain personal training and exercise referral qualifications. You’ll also be prepared for roles that help people to change their health behaviours, with a particular focus on exercise and weight management. **Placement opportunities** We are one of only a few UK universities to build professional work placements into every degree. You’ll complete two professional work placements, which will give you the chance to graduate with up to three months’ professional work experience without having to take a sandwich year out. Our students have worked in the exercise and health industry alongside personal trainers, exercise referral specialists, health promoters and health improvement specialists, as well as in schools with sports coaches and teachers.
