With technology firms around the world crying out for talented and highly-skilled graduates, this course is dedicated to putting you at the forefront of computer science engineering and will enable you to graduate with a masters-level qualification. It aligns with some of the key themes of the increasingly influential STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects, which have been deemed a major priority by the Government in order to create a skilled workforce and a strong economy. In a networked and converged world that's packed with opportunities, you will develop the skills to be able to solve computing problems in any industry. You will examine computer systems, understand how they work, the problems that arise and the implications of what companies are developing. You will also hone your expertise in emerging technologies and build your abilities in project management and teamworking. You will study advanced software engineering, cloud computing, distributed databases, network management, converged networking technologies, industrial control systems, robotics, theories of algorithms, scientific computing and systems integration. Your studies will give you the confidence to be innovative as you work on the development, integration and control of unique systems. We are committed to giving you hands-on experience that will help you stand out from the crowd and impress employers when you graduate. That's why you will be encouraged to undertake a paid placement during your second year - it will be a fantastic opportunity to gain invaluable experience without adding to the length of your study. In-depth study in your third and fourth years will allow you to critique your skills and ensure they are aligned to both your specific area of expertise and your career ambitions. **PLACEMENTS** To enhance your practical skills, you will have the option to undertake a paid 30-week work placement (subject to availability) during your second year, something that really sets us apart from most other universities. You will be able to tailor your studies to relate to your placement, allowing you to put what you learn into practice straight away. This opportunity means you can graduate with a masters qualification backed up by significant computing work experience in only four years. Many of our computing students also go on to take up full-time positions with the companies where they spent their placements. **IT Labs** The University is home to a number of modern specialist IT labs equipped with all the up-to-date hardware and software our computing students could need.
