Nursing Studies with registration as a nurse (Adult Nursing)

This innovative nursing study programme leads to the award of a Nursing BSc with professional registration as an Adult Nurse. You will learn to care for adults in a variety of care settings including primary healthcare, ambulatory settings, acute medical/surgical units, accident and emergency and critical care. Throughout the programme we emphasise the integration of theory and research-based practice in the classroom and the clinical setting. The study pathway provides both an academic and practical foundation that will form the basis for high-quality nursing practice. You will spend part of the course programme in clinical practice through placements, giving you opportunities to develop your clinical skills, and the chance to follow a community nursing placement pathway outside of the traditional hospital setting. If you are interested in these community nursing opportunities, please include details of your interest in your personal statement. Before beginning the course, you must have occupational health clearance and enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service checks completed. Teaching We use a comprehensive range of teaching and learning methods, each tailored to the current area of study, with simulation playing an increasingly significant role in clinical education. Formal lectures account for only a small proportion of the curriculum. Student-centred learning is pivotal to our philosophy, and our teaching methods, we support encourage self-development and awareness through reflection on experience. We utilise practitioners, researchers and lecturers to deliver high-quality research-based teaching. Assessment The course includes an equal balance of theoretical learning and clinical placements with partner healthcare providers including leading NHS Trusts, private and voluntary organisations. Programmes are full-time, and during your clinical placement you will be working shift patterns similar to those of a qualified nurse. A variety of coursework, written and practical exams are used to assess you and your clinical practice learning. Course details Each year you will typically study modules totalling 120 credits, focusing on quality care, cutting-edge clinical skills and professional delivery, combined with the knowledge and expertise necessary to undertake them. You will learn the pivotal roles of the nurse as a leading practitioner and partner. There will be a mixture of college-based activities which will underpin periods of clinical practice. As degree students you will become increasingly clinically focused by the second year, extending your ability to influence patient care and teamwork. Location(s): Guy’s Campus Waterloo Campus Denmark Hill Campus St Thomas’ Campus The degree programme is delivered across four of King’s College London campuses. This includes three Thames-side campuses (Waterloo, St Thomas’ and Guy’s) and the Denmark Hill Campus in South London. The majority of placements are located within London NHS trusts and private healthcare providers, but occasionally you may undertake placements located the Home Counties.
