French with English with a Year Abroad

Our French with English course involves you following required language modules throughout the course, and also selecting from a diverse range of optional French modules including French history, film, politics and philosophy, and from optional English modules covering a broad range from medieval literature, to modern poetry and women's writing. The interdisciplinary nature of this course aims to develop a broad and profound critical understanding of both French and English history, society and culture while attaining a high level of written, reading and oral proficiency in both languages. Teaching style We use lectures, seminars and small group tutorials to deliver most of the modules on the course. French language modules concentrate on high standards in written, oral and translation sills, and will involve demanding tutorials with experienced native French lecturers. Structure of course and assessment We will assess your progress and attainment on all modules you take on both the French and English sections of the programme through a range of techniques including written exams and coursework. The final degree classification you will receive is dependent on which modules you choose to study in the last two years of the course. Location Located in the heart of London at the Strand campus, the department is close to unparalleled resources for students of French, specialist libraries, the Institut Français, unrivalled galleries, theatres and cinemas
