Pharmaceutical Science, Technology and Business

At Keele University, we’re different. Nestled in 600 acres of countryside in the heart of the UK, we have a big campus but a small and cosmopolitan community. We’re proud to be ‘University of the Year for Student Experience’ in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017, in addition to having been ranked No.1 in the National Student Survey 2014-2016. This is because it’s more than green and lovely, it’s a place of research and academic excellence too. At Keele we pride ourselves on the applicability of our degrees to the work environment graduates are entering. The course structure and ethos have been designed to ensure that you will hit the ground running, giving you the subject and industry knowledge and transferable skills so that you can make an immediate contribution to your employer or indeed your own company. This course covers the main aspects of pharmaceutical discovery and development, product formulation, manufacture and quality assurance assessment, and explains how such pure and applied sciences fit into global business, legal and regulatory frameworks. This includes elements of clinical development and the role of the pharmaceutical scientist within the industry team that take a drug from research to the clinic. We aim to ensure that you leave with a significant awareness of how to operate in the pharmaceutical industry and understand the contribution of each function, within the industry, to bringing a new molecule from research to the market. The course will also provide management training and help develop your awareness of the strategic partnering and business skills essential for this environment. The School is developing a closely-related MSc programme, subject to validation, titled 'Pharmaceutical Development with Business Management', which can be studied post-graduation to further enhance your BSc studies.
