Law with Social Science Foundation Year - Keele University

At Keele University, we’re different. Nestled in 600 acres of countryside in the heart of the UK, we have a big campus but a small and cosmopolitan community. We’re proud to be ‘University of the Year for Student Experience’ in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017, in addition to having been ranked No.1 in the National Student Survey 2014-2016. This is because it’s more than green and lovely, it’s a place of research and academic excellence too. The Social Science Foundation Year is a well established course, providing the ideal preparation to study for a degree across a wide range of disciplines including law, politics, sociology, criminology, international relations and many more. Contemporary society is complex and ever evolving; this course offers the opportunity to develop questioning and analytical skills and to understand the issues and changing ideas in modern society. The social sciences seek to address difficult questions and offer answers that might point the way to a more just and sustainable future for humanity. After you have completed your Social Science Foundation Year, you could progress on to the Law programme. With an impressive list of alumni practising law at the highest levels, this Single Honours programme is recognised as a qualifying law degree that will enable you to train as a solictor or barrister after graduation. Our law degree examines law in its social, political, ethical, historical and international contexts. You’ll explore core legal subjects such as crime, torts, contract, land, equity and public law, developing your understanding of the rules which structure relationships between governments and citizens, and between private individuals. You’ll study principles and doctrines of English and European and International law and have plenty of opportunities to develop your practical skills. You can take part in mooting (practising oral arguments), client interviewing, and could volunteer as a Community Legal Companion, within the innovative CLOCK programme.
