Film Studies and Media

A Film Studies Joint Honours degree at De Montfort University offers you the chance to go beyond the viewing experience to explore film as an art form, as a social institution, and as a business. We have a strong focus on employability, and The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017 has ranked our Media courses in the top 20 in the country for graduate prospects. Joint Honours Film Studies can be taken in combination with Creative Writing, English, Journalism or Media. Each programme allows you to combine your interest in film with a wider set of knowledge, including the skills required to work in the media more generally, experience of reporting and reviewing, screen writing and other forms of creative practice, or an understanding of the connection between film and literature. It allows you the opportunity to learn about the industry from gaining practical skills of making movies, learn about the latest developments in the world of cinema, to organising and promoting film events allowing you to pursue a variety of careers in the creative industries. You will be taught by a team of experienced subject experts with a range of relevant professional, industry and creative expertise. You will also benefit from our relationship with Leicester’s Phoenix Square cinema and will have the chance to attend teaching and screenings delivered in a real cinema environment. Film Studies and Media and Film Studies and Journalism both had 100 per cent of graduates in full-time employment or further education within six months of completing their course (DLHE 2014/15).
