Education Studies with Mandarin

Education Studies with Mandarin BA (Hons) is a distinct degree as it combines the study of Education with a foreign language. The course is of interest to students who have no background in language but realise the potential skills on a foreign language for future employment prospects. You will explore how people develop and learn throughout their lives, examine the skills and methods behind educating and teaching, and develop your Mandarin language skills. As a rapidly expanding subject area, education retains the interest and relevance to continually engage learners, giving you the skills you need to develop your career and make a positive contribution to the lives of individuals and in society as a whole. Developing along a theme of social justice, equality and diversity, we offer an extensive range of introductory and advanced modules on the history, politics, sociology, culture, psychology and philosophy of education in UK and international contexts, with electives on specific areas of practice. You will benefit from our strong employability focus throughout the duration of your studies with extensive placements embedded in all three years of study in the UK and internationally through #DMUglobal. As a result the course provides an ideal preparation for those interested in going on to study for a PGCE in the primary sector, as well as careers in education practice, nurseries, youth work and educational publishing. 97 per cent of all Health and Life Sciences graduates are in employment or further study within six months of completing their course (DHLE 2014/15).
