About The Hague University of Applied Sciences

The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS) specialises in professional training and applied science courses. It is a relatively new university, having opened in 1987 after the merger of several smaller institutions. Around 26,000 students study there, with 65 bachelor’s degrees available.

The Hague is where the Dutch parliament can be found, as well as many famous international organisations, including the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice. This provides ample opportunity for students hoping to get work placements and internships near to where they are studying.

True to the slick aesthetic of the city, the university’s main campus, opened in 1996, features a spectacular glass atrium hall. It also includes a wood-panelled auditorium along with classrooms, offices and laboratories.

THUAS opened a new all-purpose sports centre in 2016, which has capacity for 3,500 people. It was constructed right next to the stadium of football side ADO Den Haag, who play in the Dutch top division.

The university has a campus in Delft, once home to famous painter Johannes Vermeer and now a burgeoning centre for technology, and another in leafy Zoetermeer.

THUAS prides itself on its internationalism, with students from over 140 countries in attendance. Although the majority of courses are in Dutch, a considerable number are also available in English.

Living in the Hague is not just international law and politics. The city has many world renowned cultural attractions including the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag and the Mauritshuis Gallery, where visitors can view Vermeer’s painting, Girl With A Pearl Earring. This was voted the most beautiful painting in the Netherlands by the Dutch public in 2006.
