This will include studying the crucial issues in management such as leadership, strategic human resource management and marketing management, giving you a full understanding of the key organisational functions and management contexts within business organisations. The flexibility of the course allows you to undertake academic research into a public sector context of your choice, through a suite of modules that allows for the development of critical thinking skills as well as higher level academic practices. It will provide you with interdisciplinary knowledge of management theory and strategy, allowing you to consider problem solving and decision making approaches in a variety of public sector contexts. You will study a specialist unit relevant to decision making in either a business or public sector context and will go on to produce a dissertation relevant to your chosen sector, allowing you to fully investigate the application of management policies and practices and to resolve problems and achieve strategic goals. The tutors in the department have close links with industry sectors such as the police, the army, governmental services and human resources management which will enhance your academic experience through industry expertise.
