Creative Media – Computer Games Animation

The Pearson BTEC Level 4 HNC in Creative Media Production (QCF) provides a specialist work-related programme of study that covers the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required in the creative media sector and also offers particular specialist emphasis through the choice of specialist units. This course has been designed for students who are progressing from level 3 courses and keen to develop the skills and knowledge required for a career in computer games development. Computer game development, which includes educational as well as recreational gaming, is a growth area within our sector and it has been identified in the government’s strategy for the digital economy as a key area for development. The HNC in Creative Media – Computer Games Animation will help you develop the relevant skills and understanding covering topics such as research and design and the creation of graphics, animation and 3D games engines. The course is divided into eight separate units each worth 15 credits leading to 120 credits in total. The units are Contextual Studies for Creative Media Production, Research Techniques for Creative Media Production, Practical Skills for Computer Game Animation, Computer Games Studies, Drawing Techniques for Computer Game Concept Art, 2D Digital Graphics for Computer Games, 2D Digital Animation for Computer Games and 3D Computer Game Engines. Each unit is assessed through a series of assignment briefs that together build to a final portfolio of work. All units’ assignment work will be assessed by the course tutors and collectively this will lead to a final grade. Learners who have achieved the BTEC Level 4 HNC in Creative Media Production should be able to progress to the BTEC Level 5 HND in Creative Media Production. It is also possible that you would be able to enter a reduced university degree programme or enter directly into employment within the computer games industry.
