Applied Health

The Foundation Degree in Applied Health has been designed to develop academic, analytical and practical skills as well as self-confidence. The broadening of knowledge and understanding of the current issues in the Health and Social Care field throughout the programme will strengthen and enhance your current practice and enable you to widen your employment prospects to achieve your aspirations. The programme is highly flexible; as well as being suitable for non-practitioners, it enables Health and Social Care practitioners to work alongside studying as to flourish and develop your practice. It also reflects current industry and practitioner changes, with current focuses on Allied Health, social work and youth and community work. Year 1 is designed to give you a solid base to healthcare and will cover topics such as care policy, communication and professional practice. Modules include: Academic Writing Skills and Personal Development, Introduction to care policy, Communication in healthcare practice, Professional Practice, Work based learning. Year 2 brings in more advanced topics such as ethics, mental health support and health promotion including Reflective practice, Empowering and supporting individuals, Mental health and intellectual disability, Introduction to the Biology of Disease, Ethics of care and Health promotion. Students completing this programme could enter employment as a Health Care Assistant or similar, or progress to a generic 'health' Level 6 degree programme.
