Finance and Investment

A Finance and Investment BA can help you gain the skills and confidence to offer sound financial advice that could change someone’s future. Currently recognised by the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) and the Chartered Financial Analyst Society of the UK (CFA UK) and accredited by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), this specialist course will suit those who intend to pursue a professional career in financial services sector, in areas such as investment advice, insurance, pensions, and wealth management. The revised programme will be seeking recognition from these professional bodies. We aim to not only equip you with detailed financial knowledge, understanding and skills, but also provide an opportunity to graduate with both a degree and professional qualification. As part of the course, you will study towards the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) professional qualification, namely the Investment Advice Diploma (IAD). This is dependant on the revised programme being successfully recognised by the professional body and the outcome will be confirmed by August 2017. Graduate career prospects in financial services are excellent and demand is especially high for those with professional qualifications – 93% of our students in work or further study after six months. (DHLE 2014/15). The Finance and Investment degree is one of a suite of finance courses offered by the School of Economics, Finance and Accounting, which will offer students the chance to develop analytical, numerical and financial skills, together with the personal and professional skills vital to the development of good finance professionals. A key advantage of our programmes is the opportunity to gain knowledge across finance, investment, wealth management, accounting and taxation. You can also choose from specialist optional modules on topics like investment analysis, portfolio management or corporate financial management. As well as simulation and practical exercises, such as assessing financial investment options or using financial trading software to understand the functioning of financial markets, you will apply theory to real-life scenarios that you might encounter on a day-to-day basis as a professional. In the past, students have produced a report relating to a case study requiring the provision of finance advice in the areas of protection planning, investment planning and retirement planning.
