To manage risks and develop sustainably, we must understand and cater the requirements of/for civil infrastructures and our environment. This course blends together environmental science and civil engineering. The UK Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM), US Bureau of Labour Statistics, United Nations (UN) and various international organisations have reported a high skill shortage in environmental engineering throughout the developed and developing world to respond to the increasing climate, demographic (urbanisation), socio-economic and environmental changes. Our professionally accredited environmental engineering course blends core civil engineering skills and environmental science knowledge, together with numerical and management principles to assess, prevent, protect and control natural and man-made environmental disasters and to lead on sustainable development at local and international level. It can be studied as the four-year MEng or five-year MEng with Professional Development Training (course code H222) or as the three to four-year BEng (course code H220) by full-time, sandwich or part-time mode of attendance. The four-stage MEng course fully satisfies the educational base for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, whereas the three-stage BEng satisfies the Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status.
