The childhood development and learning foundation has been designed to help enable and equip you with the skills to become confident, competent and reflective level 3 practitioners in the early years’ field through a carefully constructed programme of study that follows the latest national statutory guidance. It also provides opportunities for you to gain access to higher education that may not have been otherwise available by providing a bridge for those who do not possess sufficient UCAS points to obtain direct entry onto the undergraduate degree or those who switch their area of study. You will gain an understanding about the necessary skills to work in any early years setting and to work effectively in higher education. You will also develop an understanding of child development and how to support and promote children’s learning. Additionally, the programme provides opportunities to develop key employability skills valued by employers; skills of team work, independent work, presentation, role play and an ability to articulate effectively in a variety of contexts.
