About CentraleSupélec

CentraleSupélec is one of the most prestigious French engineering schools. Its excellence lies in its mix of fundamental and applied sciences and in the importance attached to innovation. The institution was officially established on 1 January 2015, bringing together two leading engineering schools in France: Ecole Centrale Paris and Supélec. The School has 4,300 students, 3,200 of whom are engineering students, 600 PhD candidates, and 300 faculty members.

Origins and International Outreach

CentraleSupéléc builds up on the success of two of French leading institutions in the fields of Engineering and Sciences: Ecole Centrale Paris and  Ecole Supérieure d’Electricité.

CentraleSupélec’s strategy of internationalization is best illustrated by the school’s leading role in the establishment and development of the T.I.M.E. network (Top Industrial Managers for Europe). The association, created in 1989 at the initiative of the Ecole Centrale Paris, currently consists of 56 members in 21 countries. Building up on the successful experience of the Erasmus programme and starting from the idea that exchanges should be extended to double degree programmes, T.I.M.E. provides students from leading technical universities and Engineering schools across Europe with the unique opportunity of spending periods up to two years in partner institutions. CentraleSupelec’s crucial role in the launch of the T.I.M.E. initiative testifies for the school’s commitment in the advancement of cross-border academic collaboration.

Today the international outlook still represents one of the pillars of the school: with its three overseas campuses (China, Morocco, and India), 30% international students, 70 nationalities represented, 180 partner universities, 80 double degree programmes, and 5,000 alumni working abroad, CentraleSupélec is an institution with a distinctive international philosophy and outreach. At the same time CentraleSupélec has developed strong ties with the private sector, with 140 partner companies, 6 international career forums in Brazil, China, India, Great Britain, Germany and Italy, and an annual Forum in Paris bringing together some 3,000 students and 200 companies. The close connection with the business world strongly benefits from the school’s network of 35,000 alumni active in all sectors of the economy.

Academic and Research Excellence

CentraleSupélec’s mission is to train multi-disciplinary and highly-selected engineers capable of tackling the societal challenges of their time. Its students are exposed to a wide range of skills comprising social, soft and research ones, and are equipped to go further ahead in a wide range of sectors from academia to industry. CentraleSupélec engineers are adaptable, trained to be equally adept in creative fields as in highly specialised ones.

The Institution is a leader in Engineering and Systems Sciences, with 17 laboratories and research, 70 full-time researchers, 53 patents, 5 doctoral schools, and 4 international laboratories in Singapore, Brazil, Canada, and the United States. The school carries out cutting-edge research in the fields of Health and Bio-Engineering, Energy, Communication systems, Environment and risks, Aeronautics and Transportation, Nano-Science, Business Systems.

CentraleSupélec proposes a wide range of programmes, including: the “Diplôme d’Ingénieur” Programme, Master of Research programmes, PhD programmes, Executive Education programmes, an Accelerated Engineering Programme, and a Summer School Programme.

In addition to combining excellent scientific training and a genuine international outlook, CentraleSupélec is also one of the driving forces behind the Université Paris-Saclay project. The project, launched in 2015, aims at creating a research-intensive academic campus and business cluster on the Saclay Plateau, 25 km south of Paris. The school, already renowned for its employability rates, among the highest in France (6th in the world based on the employer’s reputation) will soon find itself at the core of research-intensive and business cluster dedicated to academic and scientific excellence with un unparalleled concentration of higher education establishments along with Research & Development centres and top-notch private companies such as EDF, EDEAS and Siemens. The new French flagship industrial and university project has been listed by the MIT Technology Review as one of the eight world innovation clusters.

Today, as always, CentraleSupélec continues its visionary approach of training the new generation of sought-after scientific professionals: adaptive, responsive and forward thinking.
