Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences (Coaching)

The Brunel Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences (Coaching) BSc gives students interested in coaching a thorough grounding in the sports science from a coach’s perspective. You’ll learn how the human body works on physiological, biomechanical and psychological levels and how this can be applied to improve athletic development and performance and prevent injury. In your coaching specialisation, you’ll also investigate and analyse a variety of coaching theories and practices, learn to create, implement and evaluate training programmes for teams and individuals, and start to develop your own coaching practice and style. You'll learn to identify and manage training, performance and lifestyle issues, and to develop skills that enhance confidence, motivation and concentration and help control anxiety and stress. The coaching methods you’ll learn are applicable across all sports, skill levels from beginner to elite, ages, genders and contexts including professional, educational and community. We offer three study options. You can choose three years full-time, six years part-time or four years full-time with a one-year professional placement between years two and three that will give you the chance to put what you’ve learned into practice.
