History

History at Brunel is ranked 1st in London for overall student satisfaction (National Student Survey 2017). About our course Studying the societies and events of the past will allow you to look at the modern world from a new perspective. You’ll compare and contrast the past and the present and understand their connection better. Our History courses focus on Britain, Europe and the wider world in the modern period. You’ll look closely at life as it was lived in the past, observing differences, similarities and connections with the present day. History is about building your understanding in what it means to be human. As you study, you’ll develop your skills in recovering and interpreting historical evidence, formulating arguments and developing your own historical perspectives. Special features Study abroad, our membership of the Erasmus exchange scheme gives you the opportunity to spend part of your degree at the National University of Ireland (Maynooth) or the University of Cyprus. On our courses you’ll be taught by established academic specialists who draw on their own world-class research and publications to deliver cutting-edge teaching. Small group seminars and personal tutorials allow you to learn in smaller groups and in one-to-one discussion. As you study, you’ll develop your skills in recovering and interpreting historical evidence, formulating arguments and developing your own historical perspectives. We’re proud of the excellent pastoral care and support we offer students. Students have easy access to multiple resources in London, such as national and international museums, galleries, libraries (including the British Newspaper Library) and the Public Records Office which contains a wealth of information on social and economic history in Britain and Europe.
