Politics, Philosophy and History

This innovative course draws together the disciplines of politics, philosophy and history in a unique combination and uses them to interrogate one another. The degree is unified by cross-disciplinary modules taught by members of all three contributing Departments and taken by all of the students. In addition, you can choose option modules from a wide range of topics, such as the Third Reich, modern philosophy and the city in 19th-century Britain. The course prepares you to undertake a higher degree or to move into a career in education, the arts, politics or journalism. Our Department of Politics is a lively and distinguished centre of interdisciplinary research, with a strong reputation for the quality of our teaching. Some of the world’s most famous libraries are on our doorstep in Bloomsbury, central London, and you can walk down to Whitehall, where Parliament and the UK’s most influential and important think-tanks and centres of political research and analysis are located. Our departmental building was once a key location for members of the Bloomsbury Group, so you could be studying in rooms that have hosted distinguished visitors, including T. S. Eliot, George Bernard Shaw and Maynard Keynes.
