Birkbeck is different: classes are in the evening, so you can work, study, volunteer, intern or do your own thing during the day. We know the 'standard' university model isn't right for everyone, so our unique evening teaching gives people who care about their future the opportunity to study at one of the world's top research-intensive universities and move forward with their life goals at the same time. We've been helping people access higher education and get back into studying for nearly 200 years, so you'll find a famously friendly and supportive learning environment. Our new Foundation Year programmes provide the best possible preparation for degree-level study at Birkbeck. They are ideal if you do not meet the entry requirements for the undergraduate degree you would like to study, if you feel you are not quite ready for an undergraduate degree, or if you are returning to study and need extra help and support. Whatever your background and circumstances, Birkbeck's Foundation Year degrees will prepare you for success. This programme will build your confidence and give you the core knowledge and key skills you need to succeed at university. You will also get a taste of the subject area you are interested in and deepen your understanding of the career potential of your chosen subject. Upon successful completion of the one-year Foundation Year, in which you will develop your core knowledge and skills in law, you will automatically progress on to our three-year, full-time evening study LLB Law. You will study law in a historical, social and comparative context, and develop advanced skills in legal writing, reasoning and analysis, oral presentation and the capacity for critical reflection on and about law. Successful completion will qualify you to pursue vocational training, if you wish to practise. The degree is accredited by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board.
