Combine studying a modern language and its associated culture with film and media studies. Gain a thorough grounding in different areas of media study and an understanding of the ways in which the media relate to each other. Develop a critical approach, so that you can put your own and others' work in context. You will also have the opportunity to study a number of cross-cultural modules which will allow you to explore specific themes across a variety of language-speaking areas. If you choose to study French, German, Italian, Japanese, or Spanish, you can start the programme at the level of language learning that suits you, whether you are a complete beginner or a native speaker of your chosen language. If you wish to study Portuguese you must have at least post-A Level/B2 (CEFR) or equivalent language competence.
