This is the 4 year course which includes a Professional Placement Year. History of Art and Design at Bath Spa University is a critical, experimental and creative course designed for individuals who want a career in art and design. You’ll develop a strong knowledge of the historical background to the subject as well as the skills that you will need to become a motivated, agile professional in a related career. As the course progresses, you’ll move from diverse and broad-based studies, to specialist work on your own chosen areas. - Based in the World Heritage City of Bath, explore the region’s rich cultural heritage. - Be taught by active researchers, authors, artists and curators with extensive experience in their field. - Take modules which reflect your individual interests and allow you to specialise in particular media, geographical areas or periods. - Go on field trips to London and across the region. - Volunteer within local organisations. - Take Open Modules which will give you opportunities to undertake work experience. **More about the Professional Placement Year** A Professional Placement Year (PPY), traditionally known as a sandwich year, is where a student undertakes a period of work with an external organisation for between 9-13 months. The placement occurs between the students' second and third years of undergraduate study. Students can engage in up to 3 placements to make up the total time and are required to source the placement(s) themselves with support from the Careers & Employability Team.
