This is the 4 year course which includes a Professional Placement Year. Graphic Communication at Bath Spa University is a broad, practice based course that encourages hands-on, ideas based and socially engaged design.With an emphasis on understanding and challenging design conventions you’ll study carefully structured modules. You’ll be taught the critical, technical and aesthetic skills necessary to become a professional graphic communicator: designer, typographer, illustrator, or imagemaker. You’ll also benefit from workshop facilities in specialist craft areas, such as letterpress, photography, screenprinting, etching and lithography, and complement our digital resources. - Be taught by a team of full time and visiting tutors, who are design specialists and graphic communication practitioners. - Have highly regarded national and international designers and illustrators share their experience through our course specific lecture series. - Cover topics such as typography and image making, including illustration across print, screen and interactive media. - Produce creative and challenging outcomes across a range of media. - Graduate as a strategic thinker, innovator and maker. **More about the Professional Placement Year** A Professional Placement Year (PPY), traditionally known as a sandwich year, is where a student undertakes a period of work with an external organisation for between 9-13 months. The placement occurs between the students' second and third years of undergraduate study. Students can engage in up to 3 placements to make up the total time and are required to source the placement(s) themselves with support from the Careers & Employability Team.
