Criminology (Professional Placement Year)

This is the 4 year course which includes a Professional Placement Year. BSc (Hons) Criminology at Bath Spa University is an interdisciplinary programme which explores the nature, causes, motivations and consequences of criminal conduct. You will adopt a theoretical and empirical approach to the study of crime to deepen your knowledge and skills. You will also explore the criminal justice system - critically investigating the policies, processes and practices of criminal justice and punishment at local, national and global levels of society. - Study crime from a variety of approaches making this a diverse field of study. - Look at the problem of crime from different angles and perspectives. - Gain knowledge and understanding of the main theories, debates, issues and research problems in criminology and criminal justice. - Core modules will provide you with knowledge; optional modules help develop your particular interests. **More about the Professional Placement Year** A Professional Placement Year (PPY), traditionally known as a sandwich year, is where a student undertakes a period of work with an external organisation for between 9-13 months. The placement occurs between the students' second and third years of undergraduate study. Students can engage in up to 3 placements to make up the total time and are required to source the placement(s) themselves with support from the Careers and Employability Team.
