With a focus on 20th century and contemporary performance, our modules will develop your skills in music, drama and dance while allowing you to investigate other areas of production. Digital performance, staging and the use of the body to challenge dominant ideologies will all form a part of your core studies, against a background of developing your performance skills and understanding the historical context of performing arts. You’ll have a choice of areas to study, including directing, performing arts in education and live event management, allowing you to tailor the course to your future career. Our commitment to performance culture will see you working alongside students from music and drama courses to create collaborative, multi-disciplinary projects that will give you valuable teamworking experience. You will receive movement, theatre and vocal tuition from our specialist staff, and attend workshops, master classes and lectures by visiting performers, practitioners and academics. For all your practical work, you’ll have access to our dedicated rehearsal studios, complete with a flexible black-box performance space, as well as our additional rehearsal spaces. We stage regular staff and student public performances, both on-campus and around Cambridge, such as our full-scale musicals and operas, orchestra and chorus concerts, and bands evenings. You’ll also have access to free tickets to attend performance work in Cambridge and London. Outside of the course, you will find opportunities for work experience at our own on-campus Mumford Theatre, front of house or backstage, giving you a taste of life in a professional theatre environment. You can also volunteer for our Anglia Ruskin Community Theatre Company, putting on workshops and performances at local schools to get more experience of being part of a professional ensemble.
