Work towards Engineering Technician (EngTech) status on our Joint Board of Moderators-accredited course. Mix vital theory with hands-on learning as you prepare for a successful career in civil engineering. When you graduate, you can go straight into work or do a top-up year to achieve an honours degree. Civil engineering means getting out there and making a difference to the world around us. Major projects like roads, buildings, tunnels and flood protection are all designed, constructed and improved by civil engineers. With us, you’ll explore the concepts, theories and principles of civil engineering, and its underpinning science and mathematics. You’ll make full use of our specialist workshops and facilities so that you’re confident in conducting experiments and analysing results to create solutions to engineering challenges and problems. In preparation for work as a professional, you’ll learn to work as part of a design team – and look at issues relating to the technology of buildings, surveying, the law, human resource management, health and safety, ethics, and risk. Site visits and guest lecturers will connect you with industry. We also offer our Constructionarium which is a week-long construction experience. Accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) acting on behalf of ICE, IStructE, CIHT and IHE for the Engineering Council UK, this qualification is approved as fully satisfying the educational base for an Engineering Technician (EngTech). See www.jbm.org.uk for further information. When you finish you could decide to continue your studies and progress to our BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering course, which would lead to incorporated engineer (IEng) status.
