This course is 50% Human Geography and 50% History. The Department of Geography and Earth Sciences at Aberystwyth University is one of the oldest and most well-respected departments of its kind in Britain. We are recognised as an elite place to study, being ranked within the Top 100 Geography Departments in the World (QSUWR 2016). 97% of our students are highly satisfied with the quality of our teaching (NSS Survey 2015), and over 97% of our students are in employment or further study 6 months after graduating (DLHE 2014). As a Human Geography student you will have the opportunity to study sustainability, urbanisation, rural change, cultural and historical geography, and political studies, guided by world-leading academics. Field courses are aplenty in our degrees. Recent destinations include North Wales, Dublin and New York. Seminars and workshops are also at the heart of our teaching, providing you with an opportunity to develop your subject-specific and transferable skills. By combining your degree with History, you will be encouraged to engage with many of the same themes in their historical context. With a broad range of expertise from a range of places and periods, the Department of History and Welsh History offers a range of modules that will enable you to both follow your interests and discover new ones. With an emphasis on cultivating a supportive learning environment, that includes one-to-one tutorials and small group teaching, we will help you realise a passion for the past. Through varied assessment that includes both written and oral work, we will also provide you with the personal skills to communicate that passion effectively, vital for a future in the classroom or a range of other careers.
