Strathclyde Business School is one of four faculties forming the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, The University was established in 1796 as 'the place of useful learning' and this remains at the forefront of our vision today for Strathclyde to be a leading international technological university that makes a positive difference to the lives of its students, to society and to the world.

Strathclyde Business School is a triple accredited business school: the first business school in Scotland to hold this accolade, holding accreditation from the international business school bodies, AMBA, AACSB and EQUIS. The School has an international reach with eight international centres and over 100 university partners around the world.  We offer a dynamic, fully-rounded and varied programme of specialist and cross-disciplinary courses, and we have a strong commitment to widening access and inclusion while maintaining academic quality and an outstanding student experience.

The University of Strathclyde in partnership with key stakeholders has led the development of the Graduate Apprenticeship Business Management. This degree programme is designed for learners employed full time within different industry sectors and to meet the criteria for Chartered Management Institute (CMI).  A significant proportion of the indicative student workload will be credit bearing workbased learning.

The School is seeking to recruit a number of qualified and experienced workbased learning assessors, along with a workbased learning verifier, with a business management background to support the delivery and assessment of the integrated workbased learning elements of the 4 year degree programme.

You will be involved in all aspects of the workbased learning activities including the provision of initial learner training on the use of the e-portfolio, development of individual learning plans, supporting workbased learners and assessing of workbased learning activities. The role requires frequent travel to employer sites across, typically, central Scotland and the ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with a range of stakeholders including industry employers, workbased learners, GA BM staff and other workbased learning assessors.

To be considered for the role you must hold the SVQ Assessor Qualification (L&D9DI) and ideally the SVQ Internal Verifier Qualification (L&D11) and have the required background in business management to allow for the assessing of various learners at SCQF level 7 within Scotland. You will also have minimum 2 years of experience of observing and assessing candidates in their workplace including:

  • developing individual learning plans
  • interviewing candidates and examining their portfolios of evidence
  • providing feedback and offering advice
  • keeping records of candidates' progress
  • liaising with industry supervisors and developing learner support strategies.

You must be able to demonstrate highly developed communication skills and good team working skills in order to work with the University of Strathclyde GA BM programme team, oversee the workbased learning assessors and communicate effectively with learners, employers and other key contacts. You must possess IT skills appropriate to supporting learners at a distance. Due to the nature of the role, candidates must be willing and able to work flexibly both in terms of time and location, including the ability to visit learners off-campus.  There may be potential to flex the hours to meet the requirements of the role and also to offer a variety of part time contract options. You will be required to travel to meet learners within their place of work and must have a current driving licence with access to own vehicle.

It is anticipated that formal interviews for this post will be held on Wednesday 16 and/or Friday 18 May 2018 (attendance only required on one date.)

Informal enquiries about the post can be directed to Dr Kostas Tomazos, Associate Dean (Academic) (k.tomazos@strath.ac.uk; Tel: 0141 548 3846).
