The Department of Communication is inviting applications for a position at the rank of Chair/Distinguished/Full Professor in media and communication studies. The Department offers programmes at the undergraduate and graduate levels, with a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Communication, Master of Arts in Communication and New Media, and Ph.D. in communication studies. Students who enrol in the programmes study various dimensions of communication, including media studies, journalism, public relations, marketing, digital journalism, and creative media. Faculty members actively engage in research with focus on media and journalism, public relations, public communication, media analysis qualitative and quantitative, and intercultural communication.

Qualifications

We welcome candidates in all fields and methodologies of communication and media studies. Yet we prefer a candidate who demonstrates an excellent track record in using computational social science methods, including big data analytics, network analysis, machine learning, or data visualization to study communication and media. The appointment will be at the rank of Chair Professor, Distinguished Professor or Full Professor, depending on qualification and achievements of the candidate. Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field. They should document international excellence in research and scholarship with a proven record of publications in high calibre international journals and presses. They should be able to teach courses such as digital journalism, strategic communication, health communication, big data analysis, data visualisation, or another major area in the context of communication at both the graduate and undergraduate level.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty by 2023.

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,210,300 (approximately USD149,420) will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions. Apart from competitive remuneration, UM offers a wide range of benefits, such as medical insurance, provident fund, on campus accommodation/housing allowance and other subsidies.
