The International Student Advice service is situated in the Student & Academic Services directorate. The specialism of the service is providing professional immigration advice to students, whilst considering their circumstances holistically. The service works collaboratively with other teams across the university to achieve the best outcomes for students. More than just an immigration advice service; the team works to represent the interests of individual students and of the international student body as a whole across the organisation, as well as advising on various other practical issues, in addition to immigration.

The Role

We are looking for a highly motivated and organised individual to join our team, in the new role of International Advice Officer.  This new role presents an excellent opportunity to contribute to shaping changes to the advice service and how it operates, whilst working alongside experienced immigration advisers.

The International Advice Officer will provide practical assistance and first-level support to international students (including those from the EU/EEA) on a wide range of matters, from basic immigration queries through to assistance with bank accounts and accessing healthcare. The role holder will support the International Student Advisers by managing an effective triage and coordinating referral of more complex cases, whilst also maintaining their own advice caseload of non-complex queries.

The role holder will also contribute significantly to outreach work; building awareness of the department amongst the wider university community and supporting strategies to provide proactive advice.

The role is primarily based at our Greenwich Maritime campus, but the role holder will be expected to be willing to travel to other campuses as required.

Why choose us?

The University has been established for over 125 years and is an exciting and rewarding place to work. Situated on three beautiful campuses, the University boasts state-of-the-art facilities and an international student and staff community.

Your Profile

We are looking for someone who has experience of supporting students with complex issues and experience of managing their own workload without direct supervision. Additionally, they should understand the UK immigration system as it applies to students and familiarity with the needs of international students.

The successful candidate will be particularly enthusiastic about seeking creative solutions and efficiency gains, which benefit service users. They will be motivated by making an impact on student experience. They will have a demonstrable track record of providing a high-level of service within a customer-facing service environment.

Strong IT skills and a proven history of working adaptably with different systems, especially those that contain sensitive data, will be an asset.
